Why the Roman Republic is my Favourite Era

A video about why so many people find ancient Rome so compelling and on the tenuous nature of the underdog.

I really like Rome, so much so that on a recent trip to Germany we hit several hotspots culminating with Trier, a city which was once an Imperial institution and it got me thinking, why do I find the Roman republic so fascinating but lose interest once the emperors took over the show.

This video actually started as a straightforward timeline of Roman history, something that can still be mostly seen in the first half. But the script evolved into an analysis of human sympathies and what inspires them. It was fun to work on and I hope people enjoyed it.
